Alibaba is trying to position itself at the front of another revolution of convenience by bringing “car vending machines” to China. Yu Wei, general manager of the automotive division of Alibaba’s Tmall online shopping site, hopes to build the first of these enormous automobile-dispensing machines in China by the end of this year.
Consumers would browse the cars stored in the massive garage-like structure on their smartphones, make their purchase, and then the cars would be delivered to them at ground level.
“It will make buying cars as easy as buying a can of Coke,” Yu said.
