06-10-16: Swedish economic boost to ADB

By Anya Palm

In a bid to increase clean energy loans to India the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) have reached a landmark agreement: The Swedes will guarantee 155 million dollars of a total 455 million dollars in a risk-transfer scheme that could set a precedent for loan agreements in the future.

ADB estimates that the guarantee from SIDA will increase the bank’s lending capacity with 500 million dollar, making it easier to channel loans towards sustainable development in the region.
