For years the question of a possible new member of the ASEAN has been lingering. Slowly, but steadily, Timor Leste has managed to overcome all the different concerns that have been expressed over their membership, and today, all that seem to be lacking is the formal admission.
But that may sound easier than it is, writes the American political magazine, The Diplomat. Opinions on when a membership should be granted vary greatly among the existing members of the ASEAN.
