25-11-16: Plans for 2017-election in Thailand murky

By Anya Palm

The Thai government roadmap for restoring democracy in the country lays out a plan for a general election in 2017.

Since taking power in 2014, the current military government have continuously cited the roadmap as their political blueprint, and in August a milestone was reached when they completed a successful referendum on a new constitution.

However, there are factors in the roadmap that could delay the plan for election, possibly even beyond 2017, Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan told reporters this week.
