28-10-16: Silver lining for Asia over melting Arctic

By Anya Palm

The Arctic warming up and the ice melting due to global warming is a catastrophe with enormous consequences for wildlife, eco-system and people living in the area.

However, writes Muhammad Arhdi of the Jakarta Post, global warming is an irrefutable fact, and it is wise to look at all potential consequences, including the positive ones. One of them being that rising sea levels could reduce the shipping routes in between Asia and North America, making it easier to conduct trade.

Countries such as Singapore, Japan, South Korea, China and India have already joined forces with the Arctic Council on possible future opportunities for collaboration.
