As the US is withdrawing from the Paris climate accord, China is charging ahead in the field of green energy. And in another sign that the country is increasingly looking to renewable sources for its energy, China has now switched on the world’s biggest floating solar power plant.
The new solar farm in Anhui province can generate 40 megawatts of electricity – enough to power 15,000 homes.
China is now the largest solar energy producer in the world – its capacity reached 77.42 gigawatts at the end of last year. Renewables make up 11 per cent of the country’s energy use, but that number could go up to 20 per cent by 2030.
