A string of peculiar phone calls to leaders in Asia stir debate about US president elect Donald Trump´s future plans for the region.
Amongst the note-worthy calls were one to Taiwan, which US currently has no diplomatic relations with and one to Pakistan, which US has a very controlled relationship with. Nevertheless, Mr. Trump called Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif “a terrific guy” who is doing “amazing work”. He also called and congratulated Kazakhstan´s authoritarian president Nursultan Nazarbayev with the “fantastic success” he has achieved in his country.
