21.12.18: Japanese charity converts abandoned housing into homes for single mothers
Little Ones, a charity based in Tokyo, has recently won an award for its work on converting abandoned housing into homes for single mothers. Due to the decline in population, an estimated 14 percent of the housing stock in Japan has been abandoned, and with help from various government grants, Little Ones renovate these homes. The goal is to address the stigmatisation and discrimination single mothers face in Japan, where they are often refused by apartment owners, as they are not considered financially stable.
