Asia House Trip to Nakskov

6 June 2024

The Asia House team recently visited Nakskov – but why Nakskov?

This is because Nakskov is the hometown of the East Asiatic Company’s founder, H.N. Andersen. We explored the town’s historical connections and the projects supported by the EAC Foundation, for which Asia House is the secretariat.

Stop 1 – Nakskov Local History Archive: Project manager Heidi Pfeffer showcased the reorganization efforts to enhance visitor experiences with new library and study facilities. The EAC Foundation has supported some of these initiatives, including a photo book of Nakskov’s shipyard, highlighting H.N. Andersen’s roots as EAC founder and an apprentice shipbuilder.

Stop 2 – Nakskov Ship and Maritime Museum: We previewed the museum’s transformation into a modern educational space supported by the EAC Foundation.

It was inspiring to see the impact of the East Asiatic Company and the dedication of the area’s volunteers in preserving Nakskov and EAC’s history.
