On Tuesday 7 March, Asia House held a Business Meeting on State-Owned Enterprises in China presented by Nis Grünberg, Ph.D. Copenhagen Business School.
Nis Grünberg elaborated on state-owned enterprises (SOEs), showing how many of the Chinese “National Champions” fulfill multiple roles in the Chinese political economy. Using the case of CNPC (China National Petroleum Corporation, No. 3 on Forbes global 500), he illustrated how SOEs are both for-profit companies meant to expand, as well as important vehicles for the Party-state at local levels for solving socioeconomic problems. The presentation ended with a good discussion and networking while enjoying drinks and snacks.
