Booming Bangladesh
On 24 April, Bangladesh was the topic of interest in Asia House. UN Secretary General, António Guterres, talked about Bangladesh’s confirmed LDC Graduation. Camilia Brückner, Regional Director for UN, Nordic Countries, gave an update on Bangladesh, and how SDG’s are being used to attract investments and Ulrik Federspiel, Senior Advisor at Haldor Topsøe and H.E. Ambassador Muhammad A. Muhith also joined the presentation.
Bangladesh has shown itself as a frontrunner in socio-economic development: The average income of the poorest has grown faster than the general population, resulting in a massive decrease in poverty. In 1991 well over 40 % of the population lived in extreme poverty. Today the figure is 14 %.
